Jessie Katz was born and raised in Springfield, Virginia, just south of the nation's capital, and ten minutes outside of the infamous Springfield Mixing Bowl. She studied printmaking and cinematography at the University of Virginia where she received her BA in 2007. Following graduation, she was awarded an Aunspaugh Fellowship in studio art for the 2007-2008 academic year. In the summer of 2008 she traded spacious living quarters for superior public transportation and relocated to New York City. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn, where she divides her time between making art, doing freelance design work, and working as a prop master and graphic designer for art departments on film and television productions. In her spare time she is an avid greeting card designer, indoor gardener, and coffee drinker.
